Big Heart 5K - August 9th 2009
The Reds had clearly taken defeat to heart in the first Big Heart 5K last year with an impressive turn out and resounding win at Walton Hall Park yesterday (August 9th). Although equating to a 2 - 1 victory the Reds actually had 12 of the first twenty runners home - with the Blues following up with just eight! In addition there were more Red entries than Blue by approximately 70. The Reds took first, third and fifth positions with the Blues in second and fourth. Sixth place was also a Red - Will Tansley from Netherton.
The overall winner was Daniele Trinca who is a Milan Road Runner and he was representing Alder Hey NHS Foundation Trust. His winning time was an impressive 17 minutes and 24 seconds. In second place was Blue runner Danny Kevan from Salford in 17.56 seconds. Third place went to Red, Patrick Boyle from Liverpool in 18.46 seconds. Fourth was Alan Rocke, Blue, from Wrexham in 20.02 seconds and fifth was Mike Dowsett, Red, from New Ferry in 20.16 seconds. Will Tansley completed the winning positions in 20.47 seconds. In order to establish which team won the 'challenge' the first 20 positions were recorded and the best performing side was the Reds with 12 positions. First lady back was also a Red, Karen Smith! Well done the REDS!!!
FIRST THREE LADIES TO FINISH
It was an excellent day for running with good conditions on a flat two lap course in Walton Hall park and it was clear that everyone from the first to last runner taking part enjoyed the day as much as the weather. Margaret Aspinal from Hillsborough Family Support Group got the runners off at 11.00am and the HFSG charity had a good turn out with members of their committee also taking part. The Blues charity was The Rhys Jones Memorial Fund. Christine Chellew was there on the start line encouraging her Army Colleague to yomp around the course complete with full 32lb back pack and Army Regulation boots!! Well done that man! It was good to see members of staff from the Everton Foundation both in attendance and taking part! They were also responsible for the excellent cheerleaders at the start and finish. In fact, well done to everyone who took part. See you next year. Check out the Big Heart photos at www.tonyclixby.com
