MERSEY MARATHON UPDATE / 18.08.10

RUN LIVERPOOL PRESENTS FULL MARATHON PROPOSAL
TO LIVERPOOL CITY COUNCIL.

As many of you will know, ‘runliverpool’ put forward a comprehensive set of marathon proposals to Liverpool City Council at a formal presentation at the Everton Park Sports Centre yesterday (17.08.10).

The bid included a wide ranging series of suggestions that will hopefully see Liverpool reinstate a full marathon to take place in October 2011.

‘runliverpool’ was up against two other companies who also bid to stage a marathon event in Liverpool and at the time of writing all three companies were awaiting the outcome which was being considered by an eight strong panel of Council Officers.

80s Mersey Marathon



Did you take part in any of they 80s Mersey Marathon events?

 If you did, then do you have any memorabilia or event information? You may have a course map, a t-shirt perhaps. Do you have any photos of the day, or maybe you still have the medal?

As we prepare to relaunch the Mersey Marathon in 2011, I'm looking for any Mersey Marathon information from that time which can be included in a review of the Mersey / Liverpool Marathons.

Although I took part in the race in 1982, I have no clear recollection other than a start and finish at Hillfoot playing fields.

I'm sure there are many runners out there who took part and I would be delighted to hear from you if you have any information that will help build up a picture of this once great event.
